USA Today recently ran an article (Home sellers sweeten deals) on how home builders are starting to offer incentives, such as free swimming pools to entice home shoppers to buy.
These incentives can be a great added perk, if they are something that the home owner wants and are indeed free. Sometimes home builders will try to convince home buyers that they are getting a perk, when in fact they are getting what the builder decided was a standard for the home and the perk may or may not be what the owner wants.
To help distinguish a good deal from a veiled attempt to pass of a standard as customization, home buyers should consider talking to an exclusive buyer agent. The buyer agents can often save you money and/or arrange to get a perk that you actually want – especially in a market that has been leaning towards the buyers advantage.
