Great news! You’ve found your dream home. But before you move in you’ll want to make sure that your home is really all that it seems — time to call in an inspector to look under the hood.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune recently ran an article about house inspections with some good advice – specifically be sure to accompany the inspector as he checks out your potential new home.
The inspection is a good time to find out if there are any problems with the house. If there are items that need immediate attention you may be able to request that the home seller make necessary changes before you buy. If there are larger items that will need attention soon you may be able to use that as leverage in negotiation. Even if everything is in ship shape order an inspector can help you figure out how everything works in the house before you move in. (In other words – no mystery light switches!)
A buyer agent can help you through the process. For more information on home inspections or to get a list of Minnesota-based home inspectors to start your search visit the Buyers Real Estate Group online.
