This summer Minneapolis unveiled their brand new downtown library. It is worth the trip to see it! One remarkable thing about the library is the green roof. The library has planted hearty plants on the roof. The advantages are:
Natural insulation. Dirt is a good, natural insulator.
Heat Barrier. Dirt and plants are good barriers for heat in the summer.
Sound buffer. The garden buffers out much of the noise from above (air planes).
Added oxygen. The extra plants downtown are quite literally a breath of fresh air.
